Cleft lip and palate
Children with cleft lip, jaw and palate (formerly called harelip and wolf's cleft) can only be treated by a specialised team consisting of doctors, dentists and speech therapists.
The most of these children have a malocclusion of the jaw or teeth, which has to be corrected in the course of growth. At the Clinic for Orthodontics, individual children with cleft lip and palate are fitted with a palatal plate shortly after birth, which enables normalisation of the sucking function.
In order to offer an overview of the treatment of cleft lip, jaw and palate patients in the first five years of life, an information brochure (already in its third edition) has been published.
